Hold & Spin guide

Phoenix Link Hold & Spin

Six flaming Phoenix credit symbols start the feature. Three respins. Every new bird locks and resets the count. If the first three spins are dead, the bell rings and the feature rises again — that is the actual Phoenix twist, not a slogan. Worded Mini, Minor and Major prizes can stack two or three times on one Phoenix. The 1888 mystery meter can gift a free Hold & Spin with leftover birds still on the reels.

  • 6 Phoenixes to trigger
  • Dead spins restart
  • Double / triple Mini–Major
Phoenix Link Hold & Spin with locked Phoenix prizes

Trigger

Six Phoenix credit symbols. Not three. Not five.

Confucius Say, General Tso, Queen Chiu and Sensei Master all use the same Hold & Spin start: six Phoenix credit symbols in one spin on the 5×3, 100-line grid. Three Free Games scatters are a different feature — they award six free games, not this round. Phoenixes are the credit birds (cash values or jackpot words). Scatters are the Free Games symbols. Mix them up on the floor and you will sit through a round you did not buy.

What Hold & Spin looks like on Phoenix Link

  • Locked Phoenixes, cash and worded jackpots
Phoenix Link Hold & Spin with locked Phoenix prizes showing $30, $60, $120 and stacked MAJOR labels
    • Hold & Spin
    • Worded jackpots
    • 5×3

Locked Phoenixes sit on the 5×3 window with either a credit (the screenshot on this page shows $30, $60, $120) or a jackpot word. Worded birds are Mini, Minor, Major or Grand — Lightning Dollar Link style, not a Dragon Link fireball with a single number.

One Phoenix can carry more than one progressive. Two Majors on the same bird is a double. Three is a triple. Aristocrat publishes that double/triple path for Mini, Minor and Major. Grand and Major also scale with denomination on the bank.

    • Must-hit-by 1888
    • Free Hold & Spin
    • Collect

Every Phoenix that lands in base play ticks the Phoenix Mystery / Phoenix Free Feature counter. It must hit before 1888. It can also fire earlier. When it fires you get a free Hold & Spin — usually with some Phoenixes already on screen, just not the six you need for a paid trigger.

Those leftover birds stay. A lone Major that was sitting there rides into the free round with you. That is the collect: the meter does not wipe the window before the feature starts.

Feature flow

Hold & Spin from spin one to payout

Same loop on all four titles. Free Games sit on top of this engine. They do not replace it.

05 Simple and smooth workflow
  • 01
    Six lock in

Land six or more Phoenix credit symbols in one paid spin. They lock. Empty cells keep spinning.

  • 02
    Three respins

You get three spins to land more Phoenixes. Each new lock resets the remaining count back to three.

  • 03
    Dead-spin save

If those first three spins add nothing, the bell sounds and the count resets to three. The feature does not die on a blank start — that is the published Phoenix-from-ashes rule.

  • 04
    Stack prizes

New birds lock as credits or jackpot words. Watch for Mini, Minor or Major doubling or tripling on a single Phoenix.

  • 05
    Pay the window

When respins run out, every locked Phoenix pays. Credits add up. Worded jackpots pay their current meter.

Family tree

Phoenix Hold & Spin vs Dragon vs Lightning Dollar Link

Phoenix Link

The round you are playing.

Key points
  • Trigger: 6 Phoenix credit symbols
  • Dead first three respins restart the feature
  • Worded Mini–Grand; one bird can stack Mini–Major
  • Mystery meter gifts a free Hold & Spin by 1888
  • Leftover phoenix values carry into that free round
Dragon Link

The cousin on the same floor.

Key points
  • Trigger: 6 fireball / orb credits
  • Three blank respins can kill the feature immediately
  • One prize per orb — cash or a single jackpot word
  • No Phoenix Mystery 1888 meter
  • Fill-the-board Grand is the Dragon-floor story
Lightning Dollar Link

Where the worded stack comes from.

Key points
  • Multi-progressive prizes on one symbol
  • Word labels instead of a single cash print
  • Twin Spins 2-1-2 on selected titles
  • Phoenix copies the stacked-jackpot idea, then adds the dead-spin save and the 1888 meter

What lands

Credits, words, doubles and the Grand

Phoenix Hold & Spin is closer to Lightning Dollar Link than to Dragon Link. You read the bird, not a fireball.

On the Phoenix What it pays Can it stack on one bird?
Credit value Cash at the denomination you are playing — $30, $60, $120 and similar prints on the live cabinet. No — one cash figure per cell.
MINI / MINOR / MAJOR The matching progressive on that bank and bet. Yes. Double or triple Mini, Minor or Major on a single Phoenix.
GRAND Top progressive. Scales with denomination on the bank. Aristocrat lists scaling Grand on classic Hold & Spin. It does not advertise Grand as a double/triple on one bird.
Empty cell Keeps spinning until a Phoenix locks or respins run out.

Why it is named Phoenix

The feature rises from dead spins

Dragon Link’s ugly beat is famous: six orbs, Hold & Spin starts, three dead respins, feature over. Phoenix Link was built to kill that beat. If the first three respins add no new Phoenixes, the cabinet rings and the spin count goes back to three. The round continues.

That restart is the published origin of the name. The bonus rises from the ashes of a dead start. It is not a second paid trigger and it is not the 1888 meter. It is a save inside the Hold & Spin you already started.

After the save, the usual rules apply again: new Phoenixes reset the count to three, blanks burn the remaining spins, and the window pays when the count hits zero for real.

If the opening three respins lock nothing, the bell can restart the count to three. The feature continues. A second total skunk can still end it.

Yes. Six Phoenixes during those games start Hold & Spin. Confucius Say and General Tso run Twin Spins; Queen Chiu and Sensei Master run 2× wilds.

Yes. All four titles share this lock-and-respin. Free Games packaging is what splits the pairs.
