Cabinet walkthrough
How to Play Phoenix Link
Phoenix Link is a 5×3, 100-line Aristocrat pokie. You set a coin value, spin, collect line hits, and hunt two different features: six Phoenix credit symbols for Hold & Spin, or three scatters for Free Games. A 1888 mystery meter can also gift a free Hold & Spin. This page is the sit-down order. It is not a system for beating the house.
- 5×3 / 100 lines
- 6 Phoenixes = Hold & Spin
- 3 scatters = Free Games
The mix-up that wastes a session
Phoenixes start Hold & Spin. Scatters start Free Games.
On the floor those two symbols get swapped constantly. Phoenix credit symbols are the flaming birds with cash values or jackpot words. Land six in one spin and Hold & Spin starts. Scatter symbols are the Free Games icons. Land three and you get six free games, not the lock-and-respin round. If the first three Hold & Spin respins are dead, Phoenix Link can resurrect the feature. That save is not Free Games. Confirm both rules in Help before you buy in.
Sit-down order
How to play Phoenix Link from the chair
Same loop on Confucius Say, General Tso, Queen Chiu and Sensei Master. The Baron in NSW and ACT is the Australian cabinet. Help on that denom is the live rulebook.
-
01Confirm the title and the cabinet
Read the topper. Phoenix Link is not Dragon Link and not Lightning Link. In Australia the launch cabinet is The Baron Portrait in NSW and the ACT. If the skin is Confucius Say or General Tso you are on Twin Spins Free Games. Queen Chiu and Sensei Master use 2× wild multipliers instead.
-
02Open Help / Game Info
Before the first spin, open Help. Note the RTP for that denomination (land-based files sit in an 87%–95% band), the Hold & Spin trigger, scatter rules, and whether Grand scales on this coin. Do not trust a blog average over the screen in front of you.
-
03Set denomination and total bet
Published ladder is 1c through $2 plus high-limit versions. Listed bet window elsewhere is 50c–$125. The Baron button deck can hide or cap coins. Grand and Major scale with higher denoms. Pick a coin your bankroll can survive for a dry patch, not the max because the topper looks loud.
-
04Read the meters, then spin
Mini, Minor, Major and Grand sit on the bank. The Phoenix Mystery number sits top-right and must hit before 1888. Line wins pay on 100 fixed paylines. Every Phoenix that lands also ticks the mystery counter, even when Hold & Spin does not start.
-
05Play Hold & Spin when six birds lock
Six Phoenix credit symbols start the feature. Birds lock. You get three respins. Each new bird resets the count. Cash values add up. Worded Mini, Minor or Major can double or triple on one Phoenix. If the first three respins are dead, the feature can rise again. Full Hold & Spin notes live on the dedicated guide.
-
06Play Free Games off three scatters
Three Free Games scatters award six free games. Twin Spins (Confucius Say, General Tso) sync reels 1–2 and 4–5 into a 2-1-2 grid. Queen Chiu and Sensei Master turn wilds into 2× multipliers. Hold & Spin can still land inside those spins.
-
07Stop on your limits, not the next bird
Jackpots reset on hit and grow with play. 1888 is a free Hold & Spin, not a fifth jackpot. When the session cap or time cap hits, cash out. Phoenix Link still has a house edge on every spin.
Screen tour
What you are looking at on Phoenix Link
Top of screen: Grand, Major, Minor, Mini on the bank, plus the Phoenix Mystery must-hit-by counter. Floor reports and AP writers treat that counter as persistent between sitters. The number you see may belong to the last bet level, not yours. Cycle denoms in Help rather than assuming the visible 1888 track is the one you just selected.
Grid: five reels, three rows, 100 paylines. Phoenix credit symbols carry cash or jackpot words. Scatters are a separate Free Games icon. Card values and theme premiums pay the line game between features.
Button deck: denom, bet, collect, Help. High-limit Barons exist. If a coin is missing, it is hidden for that venue, not a different game.
One spin, three jobs
What a single Phoenix Link spin can do
Line wins, the mystery tick, and feature triggers are separate. A dead line spin can still move 1888. A scatter teaser is not a Hold & Spin start.
Play now| If you see | What it does | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Line hit on 100 paylines | Pays the paytable for that denom | Not a jackpot. Mini–Grand only pay as worded Phoenixes inside Hold & Spin |
| 1–5 Phoenix credit symbols | Each bird increments the mystery counter | Not enough to start Hold & Spin. You need six in one spin |
| 6 Phoenix credit symbols | Hold & Spin starts. Birds lock. Three respins | Not Free Games. Scatters are a different symbol |
| 3 Free Games scatters | Six Free Games (Twin Spins or 2× wilds by title) | Not the 1888 gift round. Mystery awards Hold & Spin, not scatters |
| Mystery meter fires | Free Hold & Spin. Leftover birds on screen can stay | Not a fifth jackpot. 1888 is a must-hit-by feature, not Grand |
Feature map
Three ways Phoenix Link pays extra
- 6 Phoenixes
- 3 respins
- Double / triple Mini–Major
Classic Link lock-and-respin. Cash and worded Mini, Minor, Major or Grand land on Phoenixes. New birds reset the three-spin count. A dead first round can resurrect. Grand scales with denom. Full grid and dead-spin rules: Hold & Spin guide.
Hold & Spin guide- Every Phoenix ticks it
- Must hit before 1888
- Can fire earlier
Borrowed from the Buffalo Link idea of a must-hit-by counter, then given a Phoenix coat. It can fire before 1888. When it does, leftover birds already on the reels can ride into a free Hold & Spin. That is the layer Dragon Link did not give you.
Mystery meter guide- 3 scatters
- Twin Spins or 2× wilds
- Hold & Spin can still land
Confucius Say and General Tso: Twin Spins, 2-1-2, more line connections. Queen Chiu and Sensei Master: wilds at 2×. Pick the title for the Free Games style you want. Catalogue and reviews sit under Games.
All four titlesWhich skin to sit
Same chassis, two Free Games styles
Hold & Spin, 1888 and Mini–Grand are shared. Sit the title for the Free Games packaging, not because one skin “hits more.” Aristocrat has not published a per-title RTP split we can cite.
Play now| Title | Free Games | Play it if |
|---|---|---|
| Confucius Say | Twin Spins (2-1-2) | You want extra line connections and more Hold & Spin shots inside free games |
| General Tso | Twin Spins (2-1-2) | Same Twin Spins half of the family, hotter general theme |
| Queen Chiu | 2× wild multipliers | You want multiplied wilds rather than synced reels |
| Sensei Master | 2× wild multipliers | Same wild-multiplier half, martial-arts skin |

Must-hit-by for the Phoenix Mystery / Free Feature. It must fire before 1888 and can fire earlier. The award is a free Hold & Spin, not a fifth jackpot.
Not always on the first try. If the opening three respins lock nothing, Phoenix Link can restart the round. A second total skunk can happen. Read the Hold & Spin page for the floor behaviour we have documented.
